Home Theater Furniture
What do you look for in a Home theater cabinet? There are many considerations but they are not obvious when you are shopping for a cabinet. Often, at a great inconvenience, these shortcomings are not discovered until after the purchase.
One of the most important considerations is proper ventilation. This is one area where many cabinets failed miserably. They will appear to have airflow vents but in practice they are inadequate and insufficient, especially when the doors are closed. The amplifier will then overheat and shut itself off. This overheating can also shorten the lifetime of many electronics within. In some cabinets, a thermostatically control fan is required.
Another consideration is the shelving’s depth, height, and rear access. Be sure the cabinet has sufficient depth to house your receiver and enough space to easily connect the cables in the back. Many of today’s quality receivers and components are quite deep and heavy. Once in place, you wouldn’t want to move it. To wire these components together, you will require access to the component’s rear. Also check for adequate airflow space around the components.
Without good wire management, just connecting the receiver, speakers, DVD Blu-Ray player, Cable Box, and game console will create a spaghetti mess of wires in the back, making it difficult to service. Look for ways the cabinet tries to reduce this problem.
Most traditional furniture brands, which are sold in furniture stores, do not fully understand these issues. It’s because they are not in the electronics business.
